Extra Time Accommodation
Learn when extra time may be appropriate and how to apply it fairly
Prevue supports fair and equitable assessment practices. Extra time may be appropriate for candidates completing the Cognitive Ability Assessment, which includes Words, Numbers, and Shapes, when there is a documented need.
Extra time accommodations help remove barriers for candidates completing timed assessments. When applied consistently, they support fair access without giving candidates an unfair advantage.
When Extra Time May Be Used
Extra time may be considered when a candidate has a documented need that affects their ability to complete a timed assessment.
This may include:
- A disability
- A medical condition
- A psychological condition
- Another documented need related to timed assessments
We recommend asking candidates to provide documentation from a licensed medical or psychological professional.
Let Candidates Know Early
Tell candidates that accommodations are available before they begin the assessment process.
You can include this information in:
- Job postings
- Candidate emails
- Pre-assessment instructions
- Assessment invitation messages
This gives candidates time to request support before starting their assessment.
Apply Accommodations Consistently
Each request should be reviewed individually using the same process.
To keep the process fair:
- Use the same review process for all candidates
- Apply similar accommodations for similar documented needs
- Add extra time before the candidate starts the assessment
- Keep a record of the request and decision
- Limit access to accommodation information
Keep Information Confidential
Accommodation-related information should only be shared with people who need it to review or apply the request.
This includes:
- Medical documentation
- Disability-related information
- Whether a candidate received extra time
Interpreting Results
Candidates who receive extra time should be evaluated using their assessment scores, the same as any other candidate.
When reviewing results:
- Focus on the final assessment score
- Do not factor in time-to-completion
- Do not treat extra time as an advantage
- Use the same job-related standards for all candidates
